Grocery Savings - Aisle by Aisle Tips to Save Money on Groceries

Would you like to learn how to save money on groceries?

The cost of food these days is getting up there! It's easy to rack up a hefty bill if you're not paying attention at the grocery store.

There is good news though! Food expenses can be trimmed down to suit a leaner budget. Groceries are a variable monthly expense, meaning its not carved in stone and this allows for greater flexibility and creativity when it comes to your weekly shopping trip.

Grocery Savings do not necessarily require coupons, and no saving at the grocery store isn't rocket science- but it does most certainly require some discipline on your part.

10 Smart Tips for Grocery Savings

  • Know your budget and stick to it.
  • Plan your meals for the week in advance....get some ideas for cheap healthy recipes!
  • Don't go grocery shopping hungry!
  • Brand names are not necessarily better, be on the lookout for the generic version.
  • Can you purchase nonperishable items elsewhere, like garbage bags or toilet paper? Sometimes the best deals on items like these can be had at Sam's Club or Costco.
  • Keep a running grocery list on your fridge to jot down products as you run out. Then look for deals in flyers throughout the week for those products.
  • Double check your food pantry and fridge before leaving. How many times have you come home with something that you already have 2 or 3 of?
  • Go shopping without the kids if possible. Even the most well behaved children will beg for "fruit by the foot" , the latest chocolate crunchy cereal or ice cream loaded with gum balls. These seemingly small splurges can add plenty to your bill total.
  • Use manufacturers coupons or coupons from the store flyer, but make sure it is for products you already use.
  • Although tempting, avoid pre-cut veggie platters, pre-cooked "homemade" meals and frozen entrees, etc - there's a price you're paying for convenience.
